What is calligraphy?
Calligraphy is different from cursive handwriting in that it involves the execution of specific strokes placed in combination to form letters. Literally meaning “beautiful writing”, it is usually rendered with a nib and ink or a brush, and requires years of practice to be done well. The thin hairlines and luscious swells, along with the personal rhythm of the calligrapher, dance in combination to transform words into unique works of art.
What are your terms and conditions?
High-quality envelopes and cards provided by the client, including 15% extra. Wedding invitations should be mailed at least six weeks prior to the event. Most calligraphy projects typically take around six weeks to complete. Please plan accordingly. International addresses may increase pricing.
A non-refundable retainer of 50% is required in order to be placed on the work calendar. Remaining balance must be paid before project delivery. Due to the custom nature of this work, the booking cannot be canceled or refunded. We are also not to be held liable for “Acts of God” that would render the work unable to be completed.
As the artist, Dorian Brown remains the sole owner of all artistic rights. There is no legal right given to reproduce, copy, alter, sell, or manufacture her work without a specific and separate licensing agreement.
All work rendered is for personal use only. Please contact Dorian to discuss separate pricing for licensing.
What is your turnaround time?
Most projects take at least 6 weeks to complete, so please plan in advance. Wedding invitations should be mailed to guests at least 6 weeks prior to the event. Please keep this in mind when booking envelope addressing or any product related to a wedding/large event.
