This is a little surreal. After years of refining my skills as a calligrapher, and gathering the courage to offer my services to the public, I now write my first blog post - on my website - for my business - Sincerely Penned. The Lord is good to me.

“Why do you write,” you ask. Well, it’s truly quite simple.

I’ve always loved art, and enjoyed art history and classes up through the university level. Furthermore, my mother was, and still is, an ardent lover of “the note”. She always sent birthday cards, thank you notes, and letters to her children when they were in college. Little did I know how much effect that would have on me. In a world where most now send a word of thanks by way of text or email, I still maintain the pleasure of selecting the perfect notecard and the perfect pen to scribe my sentiments of gratitude by hand. I absolutely delight in a stationery or gift shop where beautiful cards and trinkets abound. And I won’t EVEN go into what happens to me in an art supply store. oof.

Please don’t fret, however. I wholeheartedly see the value in typing. Lest, this website and blog would not be as accessible. There is just, quite literally actually, something special about handwriting. It is unique to the individual, and is one of many ways we bear the image of our Creator. Our handwriting tells a story. It can reveal our mood. It strengthens our fine motor skills. It is our personal creation that maybe someone can imitate, but cannot truly authenticate. In this space, I look forward to musing about all things calligraphy, pen and paper, and handwriting.

Make no mistake, my dear reader. There is simply no font that can replace the sincerity of writing by hand.
